At Midrash, he will discuss the many challenges facing
Europe today including the rise of "populism,"
Brexit, extreme nationalism, xenophobia, and anti-Semitism.
He will consider how the EU is likely to develop over
the next decade and the implications for Latin America.
Michael Leigh is a former Director-General of the
European Commission and is now an Academic Director at
Johns Hopkins University's School for Advanced International
Studies in Bologna, Italy. After spending more than thirty
years as a European Union official, he lectures and writes
about "the future of Europe." He holds a Bachelor's
degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford
University and a PhD in Political Science from M.I.T.
